When Spotify Went Disco

Spotify put a disco ball on its logo.
And somehow, the internet invented a new design term: discomorphisme.

The term started appearing on X after Spotify temporarily replaced its iconic green logo with a shiny disco-ball version for its 20th anniversary.

The reaction was immediate. Some people loved it. Others called it “the biggest downgrade in history” in a tweet that generated more than 10 million views in just three days.

In a way, that tension is probably what made the campaign successful.

People complained.
People joked.
People made memes.
People invented a fake design movement.

That's fun. That’s impact.

There’s probably a startup founder somewhere right now asking their designer:

“What if we made the icon… shinier?”

Bravo!
